Bangalore, the garden city of India
The city that was originally established as Benguluru by Kempegowda I, is the capital of Karnataka and Silicon Valley of India. The city would then be captured by Bijapur, the Mughals and finally the rulers of Mysore. Under the British, the Cantonment grew as a separate town that served as a garrison for the army. And so it is that the villas on Rest House Road, the band in Cubbon Park and spacious grandeur of St Marks Church hearken to a not so distant past. In the years after Independence, Bangalore alternated between the tags of The Retired Man's Paradise and The Garden City. But all that changed with the nineties when Bangalore was rechristened the Silicon Valley of India. Today, Bangalore that by some estimates has more IT engineers than Silicon Valley, attracts three foreign equity companies every fortnight.
